Join us this month as we discover The Diviners and ask author Alesha Escobar questions about her process, her characters, the plot, and everything in between. What inspires you to write?
I’ve been writing stories since I was young, and the thrill of creating characters, worlds, and interesting situations is something that drives me and fulfills me. This definitely inspires me to write. Even better is when readers connect with the stories I tell. It’s the best feeling in the world to receive that feedback and encouragement.
Is there a particular book or series that really inspired you to be a writer yourself one day?
I really delved into writing back in 2011, when my husband gave me a friendly challenge to create a female fantasy character. That ended up developing into my debut novel,The Tower’s Alchemist. I’m a huge fantasy fan, and some of my favorites are Wheel of Time, The Dresden Files, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter.
Either in the early morning or late evening. Usually with a ton of coffee at hand! I tend to write at my desk in my little home office space, or sometimes I’ll go to the library and write if I seriously need silence. I’ve also learned that even on days when I may not feel inspired to write, the moment I start it, I get into it and everything just flows. Sometimes you just have to push yourself knowing that you’ll have a great outcome in the end.
