Join us this month as we dig into Crimson Mage and ask author Dorothy Dreyer questions about her process, her characters, the plot, and everything in between. Where do your ideas come from?
I get my ideas from everywhere. Not just from books or shows or films, but from observing a couple having a conversation or someone running down the street for some reason. My mind is always struck with a “What if …?” question. And the ideas start flowing.
Does writing energize or exhaust you?
Both! Haha. I can get really excited about getting my story written down so I can share it with the world, but I also have some exhausting moments, when I’m trying to connect point A to point B and I’m overthinking the route. Being a writer is exhilarating, though.
Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?
With the last few series I’ve written, I want the books to connect with the other books in that series. I have written a couple of short stories that do stand on their own, though.
